The Death Industry
Personal Work, 2017-2018
This series explores the scientific and emotional aspects of death. The first few paintings, which resemble diagrams, show the scientific process by which life exits the body and decomposition reigns. Death is a natural process which affects all living creatures, down to the carrion insects that consume us. However, it is human to fear death, even corpses themselves. With enough introspection we can find insight into our impending mortality and subsequently reject the fear surrounding it. Lace and fabric symbolize the comfort of tradition, as tradition plays a large role in how we approach death. "The Death Industry" seeks to illustrate the personalization of death as its role changes from clinical to emotional the closer we step towards it.
